Announcing the Launch of ESG Analytics!

After months of being in stealth mode, ESG Analytics is here!

ESG Analytics is a platform that uses alternative data and artificial intelligence to provide insight and analysis into environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors for countries, companies and ETFs.

How are we different?

ESG Analytics uses Alternative Data (data that is outside of traditional sources) which we partner with Artificial Intelligence (AI). This allows us to capture a much larger range of companies, while uncovering hidden risks and opportunities.

The big providers of the world today typically cover under 10,000 companies, and rely upon company disclosures to provide information on things like carbon emissions, statistics around representation and a whole variety of other factors.

These are great, and are an integral factor into the investment process, but they don’t tell the whole picture. Using AI to traverse the web of unstructured data in the world today, we are able to cover over 60,000 companies, 1200 ETFs and 193 countries.

What do we offer?

A web based platform and API that allows you to access:

  • ESG algorithms scouring the world every single day to uncover risks and opportunities for 60,000+ companies. We look at 1000’s of thousands of data sources, not just news - everything from industry reports, to earnings transcripts to satellite imagery and weather. The list goes on and on.
  • Negative screens covering 25,000 companies across the world
  • 80+ Country ESG indicators covering 193 countries.
  • 1200 ETF’s covered with aggregated negative screens AI analysis.
  • A full web based platform with analytics and PDF reporting
  • Secure API for direct access/integration

The ESG industry today is awash with opaqueness, confusing frameworks and standards and a surprisingly small amount of companies covered (with data that is usually stale). This intersects with a massive shift in investment management, and global behavioural changes geared towards ESG factors as critical to decision making.

Using cutting-edge data engineering and artificial intelligence we have developed a suite of analytical tools which will help portfolio managers, advisors, researchers (along with many other use cases) monitor and research ESG data at scale and speed.

Visit the platform today, or if you are technically inclined - check out our API documentation.

The next generation of ESG is here, and we are just getting started.

Why is ESG data expensive?

The costs of collecting, analyzing and storing data are not cheap. And unlike financial data, there is no standardized process for determining ESG scores. The complexity of ESG data and the lack of standardization in the process for assessing environmental, social and governance factors also makes it difficult to compare companies on these metrics. Regulators are trying to make ESG information more transparent by mandating that companies disclose them alongside their financials, but this is still materializing globally. Traditional providers such as MSCI or Refinitiv employ armies of analysts to get this data from corporate disclosures (if it exists) and then normalize that data and provide it back to you. This is a very expenive process, with lots of quality control, and importantly - because this data is not disclosed very frequently (companies typically disclose ESG related data annually), there is less incentive to have a continuous subscription to a ESG data feed, along with risk of information leakage. All of this results in very expensive, and limited annual contracts.

Artificial Intelligence is changing the way we create and consume ESG data, which address many of the issues above - but that is a topic for another day.
